Did Danielle Rose Russell Quit Acting After Legacies Ended And She Vanished From Instagram?
After successfully securing the lead role in the widely acclaimed fantasy series, Legacies, which aired for four seasons on The CW before concluding in June 2022, Danielle Rose Russell seemed destined for stardom. The now 23-year-old was even rumored to be a top contender for the lead role in the highly anticipated TV adaptation of Sarah J. Maas' spellbinding fantasy romance novel, A Court of Thorns and Roses.
However, much to the dismay of her dedicated fanbase, Russell all but vanished from the public eye after Legacies’ finale. Interviews featuring the now 23-year-old became a rarity, leaving ardent supporters in the dark about any potential upcoming projects she might be involved in. To add to the intrigue, Russell took an indefinite hiatus from Instagram, fueling rampant speculation about her career trajectory. So, has the Legacies star stepped away from the acting scene altogether?
How Danielle Rose Russell Felt About Legacies Ending

Following a brief stint on The Originals, Danielle Rose Russell took center stage as Hope Mikaelson in Legacies, a spinoff of The Originals that ran for four thrilling seasons on The CW before getting the ax in June last year.
“I've been feeling really sad this week,” Russell told TV Guide of the show’s unexpected cancellation. “Like, once it's over for the fans, it really feels like it's over, so I'm actually really sad about it. I think we all sort of expected to go several more years, so it was an unpleasant surprise to get canceled at this stage.”
Though heartbroken by the finale, Danielle was determined to embrace the next chapter of her life. “I think I am ready to move on,” she confessed to Observer. “I think I am ready to close this chapter of my life, as hard as it is. I would never say no to coming back for a little cameo if it were to ever expand—I would love to see where Hope is in the future, but we have told her story.”
Why Danielle Rose Russell Vanished From Instagram

The fact that Danielle Rose Russell completely vanished from Instagram after the Legacies finale shouldn't be all that surprising, as the star hasn't had the best experience with social media. Even before landing the lead role in Legacies, the now 23-year-old was getting viciously body-shamed on social media.
At this point, the Aloha star was more than willing to clap back at the critics. “It’s extremely upsetting that people are calling me unworthy, a bad actress, or degrading me because I have curves,” she wrote on Instagram in 2018.

“I don’t need to explain myself to anyone, but those who are body-shaming me should be ashamed of themselves for calling me unworthy of being an actress, and are only hurting other young women and men who don’t have a body up to your standards.”
Though hordes of adoring fans came out in solidarity with the actress, this wouldn’t be the last time the internet trolls would attack. Things reached a tipping point when Russell was rumored to be a top contender for the role of Feyre Archeron in the highly anticipated small screen adaptation of Sarah J. Maas’ A Court of Thorns of Roses.
Having presumably grown weary of the constant harassment, Russell deleted her Twitter account, unfollowed everyone on her Instagram, and all but vanished from the public eye.
Did Danielle Rose Russell Quit Acting?
Despite being wary of the limelight, Danielle Rose Russell seemed fully intent on keeping her acting career going. “I really do love the fantasy genre, so I would never say no to returning to that genre,” she told Observer in June 2022.
“I miss doing movies, and I would love to do a great series again. I’ve actually been traveling since the show ended, so I’m just kind of now getting back into auditioning, so we’ll see where my career takes me after this. But yeah, I’m open to everything!”

However, months after her time as Hope Mikaelson came to an end, Russell hadn’t taken up any new projects, sparking endless speculation about the trajectory of her career. However, in an interview with The Unscene Work podcast, the now 23-year-old explained that though she'd taken time away from the acting scene after the Legacies finale, she hasn’t completely given up on acting.
“As an actor I’m constantly getting asked ‘what’s next? what’s the next project?’. It comes from a good place, of course. But there’s so many times like right now I’m at this place in my career where I am auditioning, and I am pursuing things, but nothing is fixed right now,” she said. “I really wanted to give myself time. I took a month and I traveled a little bit, and I spent some time with friends and family like I said. And that’s enough for me right now, I just got off a five-year thing.”
Though yet to step away from the acting scene, the Aloha star is yet to land her next big role. As it turns out, the 23-year-old has encountered some hurdles in the audition process, a fact she didn't shy away from admitting during her interview with The Unscene Work podcast.
“Facing rejection is probably one of the toughest parts of being an actor,” she said. “The part that really no one sees is how much rejection you face… I’ve literally felt heartbroken over the roles that I’ve lost in films or projects that I’ve lost. It’s broken my heart for a period of time. That’s really difficult, dealing with that. I still face that to this day. I’ve been going through it, I got off of my show about six months ago, and I focused a lot on myself personally, and my life personally, and I’m just getting back into auditioning now, and I’m remembering the whole process, and its more rejection than acceptance, and that’s hard to readjust to again.”
